The McCann family has practiced law in Livonia for three generations.

I, Tyler W. McCann, am the newest member of the McCann family to join the legal profession, graduating Magna Cum Laude from Western Michigan Cooley Law School in 2019. I was sworn in by another McCann, my Aunt Kathleen McCann, Livonia's 16th District Court Judge, in 2020.
The patriarch of our family, James R. McCann, moved to Livonia after returning from military service in World War II. He was elected to the Livonia City Council in 1958. Where he would hold office until 1966, at which point he was elected 16th District Court Judge. He served until 1995 when he retired as Chief Judge.
As Judge he initiated the first Volunteer Work Program and the largest Volunteer Probation Department in the State of Michigan. He was elected President of the Michigan District Judges Association and was the longest serving District Judge on the Michigan Judicial Tenure Commission.
After his passing, as a tribute to his legacy, Livonia's new 16th District Court was named in his honor. The plaque commemorating him within reads "[T]he programs that were initiated and implemented by the Honorable James R. McCann define the 16th District Court."
James C. McCann, son of Judge James R. McCann, has also dedicated much of his work to public service. He served on the Livonia City Council from 2004 until 2012, and was elected City Council President from 2006 to 2008 and from 2010 until 2012.
At McCann Law, we vow to uphold our reputation as leaders of the community and give back to our home, Livonia.
